Co można by jeszcze ciekawego powiedzieć o Dyrygencie?

What else is there of interest to say about The Conductor? I think it played its role among those films that came under the banner of cinema of moral concern, and I think it's an injustice that still prevails today, to say that these are films made against the authorities, and that they have a value only in so far as they can be used in the politcal struggle. No. I think that other films made at this time, I'm not talking about Bugajski's Interrogation, but I'm thinking of A Solitary Woman, Master of Ceremonies, or other films, not just those made by Zespół X, above all Krzysztof Zanussi's Camouflage, are all films that had an artistic power. Actors, and this is very important, actors knew very well what they were part of. I have to say that later in the days of Solidarność when actors refused to appear on TV, an actor's strike that amazed the whole acting fraternity and no one could understand how it was possible for an actor to refuse to appear on public televison, it was those films that prepared the actors to adopt that sort of attitude, so that they were able to play such a beautiful and significant role. This was a very important moment in the history of Polish actors, when they joined the Solidarność movement. I think this also happened in these films. So I think this film was important not just for me for again bringing me closer to my young colleagues, standing shoulder to shoulder with them, handling a contemporary topic which was the only one that interested them and was important to them.

Polish film director Andrzej Wajda (1926-2016) was a towering presence in Polish cinema for six decades.
