The films we wrote together - with Pierre Etaix - and that he directed and acted in, were, in a manner of speaking, stolen by a couple who bought them, promising to capitalise on them better than we had. And then we realised this couple had no means to do so, and they were probably keeping them so they could make a profit by selling them once we're dead. So we went to court, and we won, and we are slowly getting them back, they haven't been seen for 15 years, and it is important to properly restore them. So before we die we will try to start showing them again, because I think they're worth it.

French screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière (1931-2021) began his association with films aged 24 when he was selected by Jacques Tati to write for him. This early experience led to further contact with other film-makers, including Luis Buñuel with whom Carrière collaborated for many years. He wrote screenplays for films including Belle de Jour, The Discreet Charms of the Bourgeoisie, Tin Drum and Danton.
