I was already familiar with the presence and talent of Jeanne Moreau as we had worked together on The Diary of a Chambermaid by Buñuel, and we never left each other throughout our lives. I saw her a few months ago at the festival in Angers... she read a screenplay we wrote with Buñuel called Le moine that we hadn't been able to shoot for financial reasons, and at 80 years old she did an amazing, outstanding, full reading, playing all the parts. She is so great, she is someone I have loved so much, both as an actress and as a woman.

French screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière (1931-2021) began his association with films aged 24 when he was selected by Jacques Tati to write for him. This early experience led to further contact with other film-makers, including Luis Buñuel with whom Carrière collaborated for many years. He wrote screenplays for films including Belle de Jour, The Discreet Charms of the Bourgeoisie, Tin Drum and Danton.
