Jurek Wilner, on miał kolegę jakiegoś tam gdzieś, ten kolega gdzieś kupił rewolwer, na Kercelaku prawdopodobnie i Jurek przyniósł ten rewolwer do getta i ten Izrael Kanał strzelał do Szalińskiego.

Jurek Wilner, he had a friend somewhere and this friend bought a gun, probably at Kercelak, and Jurek brought this gun to the ghetto and Izrael Kanał shot at Szaliński. Szaliński was a chief of the Jewish police; before the war he'd been a police commissioner. For some unknown reason he'd been arrested, then they released him and when he got out, that Kanał who was from some Zionist organisation, went up to him and shot him, seriously wounding him in the face but nothing happened to him, he survived that wound. But this was the first assassination attempt in the ghetto, and I have to say that independently of that, the fact that it happened was of no significance to these young people, and that they put up a resistance, but a Jewish head of police, no one knew what happened. That's when all kinds of discussion started up between these organisations saying that they need to create militant groups that will resist the Germans, one that will fight the Germans. But no one had any weapons. This was all pie in the sky, nothing more. I'm not going to go into the details because it's not important. The truth is that no one trusted anyone else. These organisation were ideologically separate from one another, they'd had no prior contact because there had been no Zionist organisations in the ghetto which is why they had a few people. On the farm in Czerniakowo, they had, at Mr..., Jakub Karpiński's grandfather, not his grandfather, his father, Jakub Karpiński's mother had been the administrator while he was the owner.
