[Q] You worked in television?

I directed films for television.

[Q] Really?

Yes, yes, but at the same time I was never hostile, I would have liked to make films for television. I was one of the black sheep that they didn't really want to see. In fact, for the first film that I directed for television, the unions had said, 'You have to hire Coutard as an intern, at the intern rate'. It's Jean-Louis Guyot who was the manager of the channel who said, 'But listen, we can't ask Coutard to be hired as an intern, at the intern rate with all the films in his background'. And the guys weren't too happy.

[Q] Really?

Yes, yes.

[Q] Ah oui?

Oui, oui.
