Barbara Barres said she couldn't come back to visit Harvard because she was Ben Barres. She had undergone a change, transgender person, and did it very, very successfully. Was forward, was outgoing, was quite wonderful. Her students adored her... him. I keep making this error. Students adored him and were so sad when he developed a malignant disorder, which dragged on for at least two years. That was my major regret.
Gerald Fischbach (b. 1938) is an American neuroscientist and pioneering researcher. He pioneered the use of nerve cell cultures to study the electrophysiology, morphology and biochemistry of developing nerve-muscle and inter-neuronal synapses.
