I can say that from my schooldays, I was engagé, involved as a young communist, as a boy scout – I’ve mentioned this – and then later in youth organisations. That doesn’t mean that I had good relations, it doesn’t mean that I was in any way privileged. I was… because I was quite a difficult child and at school I was called – my Russian teacher called me ‘buntowszczyk’ – a rebel, this wasn’t because I was expressing my ideological convictions but rather my attitude towards life, my relations with my teachers; I wasn’t an easy pupil. I was politically involved in my schooldays and there’s not much to say about that.  I was already taking part in rallies ’56, in organising left-wing independent youth organisations. I only really tasted freedom when I went to university – I found school a repressive place which I couldn’t stand.

Byłem zaangażowany, można powiedzieć, w czasach szkolnych i tu jest niewiele do powiedzenia, jeszcze w szkole brałem udział w jakichś wiecach '56 roku, w organizowaniu niezależnych organizacji młodzieżowych, lewicowych.
